Expert Care for South Coast Runners

What Sets Us Apart

The most important thing to recognize is that all runners will experience pain at some point, and that to simply “stop running” won’t resolve their issue.

Our approach begins with identifying errors in training and it ends with developing a comprehensive program to improve running performance and prevent injury recurrence.

To treat runners you have to understand the unique challenges they face.

Emphasis on Strength

Running is hard. The repetitive impact from running places increased amounts of physical stress on the body and can lead to overuse injuries.

Building strength helps to improve your body’s tolerance to the stresses of running. Getting stronger will also help to improve your movement efficiency and maximize your physical capacity.

Strengthening is the cornerstone of any successful training program. Our clinicians emphasize strengthening in all training regimens designed for runners and other endurance athletes.

Rehab for Runners

Runners Treating Runners

Most runners that have been injured have likely heard one of these phrases:

  •  “ You need to stop running”

  •  “ Running is bad for you”

  •  “ It’s normal to be in pain if you run”

We’ve been there, we’ve heard them too, and we want to set the record straight.

Managing running related injuries is not black and white, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach that works for each runner. Designing a treatment plan is very complex and takes a variety of factors into consideration.

Your personal physical therapist will take the time to learn your running background, assess how you move, and help identify errors in training that may be contributing to your pain. We’ll build you a corrective exercise program that addresses your specific needs to make you a stronger runner and minimize the risk of injury.

Recovery for Runners

Recovery after intense exercise is essential to building strength.

Neglecting recovery can actually lead to further tissue breakdown and injury. We offer services to help prioritize recovery so you keep progressing without reaching a plateau or getting hurt.

Recovery services include:

  • Dry needling and soft tissue mobility

  • Normatec compression

  • Nutritional guidance

  • Alterations to weekly training program to maximize recovery

  • Exercise prescription to address mobility and tissue extensibility limitations

Running Screen

& Slo-Mo Gait Analysis

Nobody runs with perfect mechanics.

The best way to avoid injury is to build up strength in our weaker areas. To do this, we first have to identify which aspects of our movement are dysfunctional so that we can treat them accordingly.

Our thorough movement screen was specifically developed for runners, by runners, to help identify red flags that could be associated with injury.

The slow motion video recording of your running form helps us to analyze your movement patterns at each sequence to help improve your mechanics.

This information will help us to make recommendations on your training regimen, what to choose for footwear, or what corrective exercises to perform to help improve your running efficiency and sustain long term performance.

What to expect:

  • Assessment of running background, injury history, footwear, and goals

  • Biomechanical assessment and movement screen

  • Slow motion video recording of running form with analytical break down

  • Corrective exercise prescription and recommendations on training programming
